Hybrid Tech: E-Power

Hybrid Tech: E-Power

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to drive an electric car without worrying about charging it? Well, Nissan has a solution for you: the e-POWER system. This innovative technology combines the best of both worlds: the smooth and responsive performance of an electric motor, and the convenience and efficiency of a gasoline engine.

The e-POWER system consists of a high-voltage battery and a powertrain that integrates a high-power motor, an inverter, a gasoline engine, and a generator. Unlike conventional hybrid systems, the e-POWER system does not use a gasoline engine to drive the wheels directly. Instead, the engine only generates electricity to charge the battery or power the motor. This means that the car is always driven by the electric motor, just like an EV.

The benefits of this system are numerous. First of all, you get to enjoy the instant torque and acceleration of an EV, without the need for an external charger. The e-POWER system can also control the engine start timing and RPM to optimize fuel efficiency and reduce emissions. Moreover, the system offers a quiet and comfortable driving experience, as the engine noise is minimized and the motor can smoothly adjust the speed with just the accelerator pedal.

Nissan has been developing and improving the e-POWER system since 2016, when it was first introduced in Japan with the Nissan Note. Since then, Nissan has expanded the e-POWER lineup to include various models such as the Serena, Kicks, Qashqai, and X-Trail. The e-POWER system can also be combined with Nissan’s e-4ORCE technology, which is a four-wheel-drive system that uses two electric motors to deliver balanced and stable handling.
